CASSIDEE STREET || CASNR
Meet CassiDe Street, the next person in our #FirstYearFeature series. CassiDe is the Coordinator for Student Retention in the College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources.
“We are a pretty small college so I think the first thing that stands out about us is our small class size. Most classes are around 20-30 students and our student to faculty ratio is 13:1. The small class sizes really give students the one on one attention. Another thing that stands out is our students are advised by faculty members. This means that the students are advised by professors that they interact with every week. Faculty members get to know their students passion inside and outside the classroom and are better able to advise them on classes and point them in the direction of internships and career opportunities.” – CassiDe Street
Q: What services does your office have for First Year Students at Texas Tech University?
The Dr. Bill Bennett Student Success Center offers tons of support for First Year Students. We want you to have as great of experience as we did our first year. We offer faculty advising, peer mentoring, and career development. The SSC hosts a variety of events that help you adjust to college life including: CASNR Learning Community, Ag Fest, Winter Welcome, Mr. CASNR, Ag Awareness week, and much more!
Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love getting to know the students and helping them overcome challenges and finding success at Texas Tech.
Q: What is your favorite thing about Texas Tech and why?
The people, of course! They are the reason I love being a Red Raider. I guarantee you that there is someone on this campus that has the same interest as you.
Q: What is your favorite spot on campus?
My favorite place on campus is walking through the Horticulture Gardens and sometimes if you are really lucky the greenhouse cats will come see you.
Q: What advice would you give first year students?
Be willing to branch outside of your comfort zone.
Q: Looking back to your first year, what would you change? What would you do the same?
I wish I would have got more involved in CASNR right away. Have fun!
Q: What is your favorite place to eat in Lubbock?
Where to begin…. Caprock Café, Sazon, Orlando’s, Garcia’s, and many more.
Q: What are some hobbies you have?
Laying by the pool.
Q: What is your favorite Tech Tradition?
I have to go with the Masked Rider. I love the history behind it and knowing that we were the first school to have a horse lead the team onto the field. I still get chills!
